Naming a Street After Soccer Coach
Move to name street after South Carolina's Berson
Friday, Aug 31, 2007 8:15 AM ET
THERE IS BRYANT DRIVE (NAMED after the legendary football coach Paul "Bear" Bryant) that runs along the southern flank of the University of Alabama campus.

The late Adolph Rupp and Dean Smith have basketball arenas named after them on the campuses of Kentucky and North Carolina.

How about Mark Berson Way?

Efforts are being made to rename a street after Berson, who begins his 30th season with the Gamecocks Friday.

The drive to name the block of South Marion Street adjacent to Stone Stadium after Berson is being led by former walk-on Shep Headley.

Berson's reaction?

"I said, 'Well, as long as it's not a dead-end street,'" Berson told the Columbia State.
